• A Note From Our Pastor

My family and I love ThornCreek Church, love people, and love Jesus. My wife, Grace, and I moved to Thornton to start ThornCreek in September 2002. We did not know anyone! It was a huge, scary, faith step. But, God is so faithful. We have seen the church grow from three strangers in our living room, to what it is today. It's been a joy. My wife and I have been married for 32 years. We are High School sweethearts. We have two children, Josiah who is 23 years old, and Hannah who is 19 years old. In July 2021, Josiah married an amazing, godly woman named Kaylee. We love her! They both graduated from Trevecca in Nashville, TN. Kaylee has a Bachelor's Degree in Theology, and Josiah has a Bachelor's Degree in Music Business. Hannah is starting her freshman college experience outside of Chicago, IL, at Olivet in August 2023. As a family, we love to laugh, spend time together, worship together, and serve together. This is our family philosophy. We also love coffee!

As for our education and experience, I attended Nazarene Bible College in Colorado Springs and received a Bachelor's Degree in Theology. I've been in ministry for over 30 years. I've been blessed to have an opportunity to speak at conferences, churches, and retreats across our nation. It's an honor. My wife has a Masters Degree from Colorado Christian University. She is a great blessing, and the church loves her.

I always tell people, "You will get out of ThornCreek, whatever you put into it." There's space for you to sit in the back row, or the front row. It's a place for the believer or the seeker. Wherever you're at in your walk with God, our hope is you find love, grace, and life at ThornCreek. We hope you hear a word from God that is life-changing. We hope you experience the full life that God has for you, which is found in Jesus Christ! So…Thanks for visiting our church website, and hope to meet you in person…or online!

VALUES

"God is looking for people through whom He can do the impossible, what a pity we only attempt the things we can do on our own."

Love

None of us have it all together. ThornCreek is a place for people to come and experience an authentic, caring and friendly environment. Jesus made it clear that His followers would be known by their love for others. At ThornCreek, people are accepted and inspired to do life with God.

Relationships

There are people who live around us that have never experienced the transforming grace of God. God works through relationships to communicate His love, purpose, and hope. When people share their lives with each other in a vulnerable way, real growth happens. Accountability is a healthy characteristic of a growing Christian.

Transformation

God works from the inside-out. Any time people truly encounter God's presence in their lives, they can't help but to be changed. It starts with a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Transformation happens when people are obedient and faithful to God at every moment. God uses relationships, the church, and the Bible to mold and shape people. ThornCreek believes both young and old should never stop growing spiritually. When transformation happens, people become more like the character of Jesus Christ

BELIEFS

  • God is Creator and Ruler of the universe

He has eternally existed in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God.

    Genesis 1:1, 26-27

    Psalm 90:2

    Matthew 28:19

    2 Corinthians 13:14

    1 Peter 1:2

  • Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

He is co-equal with the Father and the Holy Spirit. Jesus entered the human race through a virgin birth. He lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He rose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven's glory and will return again to earth to reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

    Isaiah 9:6

    Matthew 1:22-23

    John 1:1-5, 14:10-30

    Acts 1:9-11

    Romans 1:3-4

    1 Corinthians 15:3-4

    1 Timothy 6:14-15

    Titus 2:13

    Hebrews 4:14-15

  • the Holy Spirit is equal with the Father and the Son as God

He is present in the world to make us aware of our need for Jesus Christ. He also lives within every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living a holy life, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance for doing what is right. The Christian seeks to surrender their life and live under His control daily.

    John 14:16-17, 16:7-13

    Acts 1:8

    1 Corinthians 2:12, 3:16

    2 Corinthians 3:17

    Galatians 5:25

    Ephesians 1:13, 5:18

    1 Thessalonians 5:23-24

  • Salvation is a gift from God to each one of us.

We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God's offer of forgiveness can one be saved from sin's penalty. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into their life by faith.

    John 1:12, 3:16, 14:6

    Romans 5:1, 6:23

    Galatians 3:26

    Ephesians 2:8-9

    Titus 3:5

  • We were created to exist forever.

We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or in an intimate relationship with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is hell. To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life in heaven. We believe heaven and hell are real places of eternal existence.

    John 3:16

    Romans 6:23

    1 John 2:25, 5:11-13

    Revelation 20:15

  • Human beings are made in the image of God, to be like Him in character.

We are the supreme objects of God's creation. Although we have tremendous potential for good, we are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called "sin". Sin separates us from God.

    Genesis 1:27

    Psalm 8:3-6

    Isaiah 53:6a, 59:1-2

    Romans 3:23

  • The Bible is God's word to all people.

It was written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. We believe the Bible perfectly reveals everything we need to be saved.

    Psalm 12:6, 119:105, 160

    Proverbs 30:5

    2 Timothy 1:13, 3:16

    2 Peter 1:20-21

    Hebrews 4:12-13

  • Church should be culturally relevant.

It's a safe place for all people to investigate Christianity. It's also a place where people can experience practical biblical teaching, upbeat music, and quality programs for the entire family. It's a place of celebration where ordinary people can experience a life-changing, vulnerable relationship with God and other people. God has a purpose and a plan for everyone and desires to have an exciting relationship with them. We strive to be culturally relevant, but our Theology doesn't change based on culture. We believe it is important to stay relevant, but also stay true to God's Word.

    Acts 2:42-47

    Ephesians 3:14-21, 4:4-13
