“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever” -- Hebrews 13:8 (NLT)

This verse really stuck with me today because Jesus is good all the time to us. Today I saw so much happiness and passion for Christ because of the consistency Jesus has.

This morning we had home visits with  kids from the program and with volunteers that help out with the program. We first visited Darma who is 19 years old. She is in the program and also helps the church out by singing on the worship team and helping the kids at the church. I can see the passion that she has for the church and the kids. She currently goes to a University in Talara and is holding a very good grade in all of her classes which makes her parents and her very happy.

Minutes after we visited her we visited Lisbeth’s house. She lives with her twin sister and her mother who is mute. Once we got there we began to talk about how hard it is to communicate to others about how she feels in her daily life. The translators explained to us that she has a hard time going to small group because of this disability. But through all the efforts that the volunteers have put in, they found a way to communicate with her which opens up many opportunities for her to communicate how she is feeling and possibly bring her closer to God.

In the afternoon we had delicious lunch which was prepared by volunteers at the church. We ate with the Project Director, and we heard her story of how long she has worked with the church and the kids. She told us many stories of kids who have grown to succeed in life through the program. She told us that being up close to these things all the time is hard but seeing those kids growing up and going to a University was amazing. She was such an inspiration to the kids and us as well because that takes a lot of effort to process and witness it first hand.

After lunch some of us went to the ages 9-11 years old classroom. They were filled with such joy and eagerness to see and talk to us which made me feel very humbled and overwhelmed because of how many of them wanted to know about us. I sat with many of the girls, and they were wanting me to sit with everyone. We read the bible together and listened to the kid’s devotional. When the time came to an end, we danced together to a dance that was danced last night and the open night.

Later today we sat with the teens, who were not as different as my youth group as I thought. They gave their leader some grief just like my youth group. They also laughed and joked with each other which made me even more comfortable to talk to them because jokes and laughter always bring people together.

When the day came to an end, I got together with some of the girls and sang a popular song. Then more joined in making it more and more family like. I can not wait for more to come tomorrow seeing them again because God unites us as one family which overwhelms me with love.

Even youths grow tired and weary.
And young men stumble and fall;
But those who hope in the Lord
Will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
They will run and not grow weary.
They will walk and not be faint.
