This was my second trip to Negritos Peru.  I was so thankful that I was able to attend and worship once again with the friends I had made previously, having come before I knew what to expect.  You will be hugged and kissed by every person you meet, you will see extreme poverty, but you will also see great joy in the people.

One of the hardest parts of the week for me was when we went to visit a home of one of the children from the project center.  While we were visiting with the mother of the child I asked if she attended the church. Her response surprised me and I wasn't quite sure what to say. She stated that she only attends church when she is invited. Of course later in the day I had thought of all kinds of responses that I could have replied to her. However I thought more about it and how her response is no different to comments I've heard back in the States.  How sad that we sometimes feel like we need an invitation to be in the presence of God. God's door is always open and He asks us to seek Him in everything we do. Don't wait for someone to ask you to attend church, for His door is always open and He's waiting for you to come in.

Of course the best part of the trip was the times I was able to spend with my sponsor child.  There is no greater joy than a child's unconditional love. With this being the second time together, we were able to communicate much easier and get past the small talk. Now my letters to her can be more specific and we can continue to deepen our friendship.
